St. Philip’s UMC

Thank you for your donations and continued support of St. Philip’s! Click here for the thank you letter from Pastor Efrain Cotto, Jr. of St. Philip’s UMC for your support of their food cupboard.

St Philip’s UMC in Kensington continues its Food Cupboard Ministry through the Pandemic! The mission of St. Philip’s church is to share with others the gift of God’s love through our service, compassion, witness and life together. We are committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ through word and deed, calling people to salvation in Christ and to live the tenets of Christian faith in love and service to others.

The St Philips ‘Wednesday meal has been on hold because of the Corvid-19 epidemic. However, they continue to provide food in different formats to the people of Kensington. We are distributing- lunch in a bag, pb&j sandwiches (supplied by Jarrettown UMC) and bags of groceries from St. Philips’ food cupboard.
Once a week, police officers from the 25th/police district pickup bags of assorted groceries at St. Philips for distribution to the people in Kensington. Our feedbacks from the police officers indicate a strong appreciation for the bags of groceries. Many officers receive a warm “God Bless You” for a bag of food.

Thanks to the leadership of Brother George and Sister Elaine Cahlink and the support of longtime members such as Sister Elaine Rash and Brother John Douthit and the ever important financial aid from our partner church, Jarrettown UMC in Dresher, we have been able to continue providing healthy lunches to our neighbors in need. Covid-19 has impacted communities of essential workers and low-income communities at a high rate. The composition of our community has populations that are keenly affected such a low-income white, black and Latino households that must work in order to survive. Many are retired and alone. Our fellowship accompanies the lonely, gives them support and comfort. Even though we cannot assemble in our activities/dining room, we still meet our neighbors outside and share bags of food and prayer on the go! Please continue to support this vital ministry.

St. Philip’s Food Cupoard continues to need the following food items for the cupboard program:

Canned Fruits/Veggies/Tuna/Beef Stew, Cereal, PB&J, Mac & Cheese, Pasta Products
